Lifelong development is the standard
Lifelong development is the standard
Work in and around the port can no longer be compared to the past in any way. The same applies to the range of training and education available for port professionals. They want to keep developing, both professionally and personally. STC Next’s training portfolio is designed around the principle of lifelong development. What makes this portfolio unique?

A changing world
“The port world is changing at a rapid pace,” says Simone van Meurs, Lifelong Development Advisor at STC Next. “We are seeing far-reaching automation and digitalisation. There are also global developments such as climate change, and a growing focus on the environment and sustainability. No industry can afford to fall behind. In and around the port, a new generation of employees is also emerging. They are looking for a different work-life balance, and want space for wellbeing and personal development. This change requires us to work with clients and professionals to find the answer to the question: ‘What’s next?’”

Meeting every training need
Developments in education make it possible to design and offer formal education in a modular way. This makes public education more accessible to professionals. STC Next is also closely connected to industry, sector organisations and government bodies at national, European and global level.
“Our network gives our lecturers and consultants every opportunity to stay closely connected to professional practice. Our participants benefit from their knowledge. This enables us to advise organisations and individuals on the best training pathway: from standard upskilling to high-quality training materials developed fully from scratch and tailored to specific needs. This truly reflects the spirit of lifelong development.”
Straight into practice
According to Simone, the learning process itself has also changed. “It is now much more focused on the needs of professionals. Theory is applied directly in practice, often using relevant practical cases. In our own port training centre and fire safety centre, we also have all the resources needed to make learning feel real, including our simulators. We can recreate every imaginable situation. This allows us to train our participants in the most realistic practical situations possible, and helps ensure they remain sustainably employable in their current or future profession.”
Proud of our story
Lifelong development is now widely accepted across society. “We see that developments are moving faster and faster, especially in and around the port. By definition, this also has consequences for education. We help organisations and individuals develop, so they remain aligned with society. That is why we are so proud of our story, and why we keep telling it again and again: STC Next keeps you growing.”
